Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend.
Kanan settled into his small cottage on the other side of the village. The atmosphere was similar, but he was finally relieved of the haunting images that haunted him around the old house. The nightmares still came hard, as he screamed into the night, body rigid with fear. She's gone, you can't save her he would tell him self over and over again to stop the sobs. There was no point in crying anymore. But it wasn't until the fifth anniversary of Aida's death did Kanan use his power again. He went to visit her grave as he did every year, but that time was different. He heard the strangled cries of a tiny sparrow near by that promply caught his attention. Using his acute hearing, he found the poor bird, wing broken and shivering wet. Kanan named her Aida, and the thankful sparrow is still with him today. Ophelia came later, and on her own. But now, seven years after Aida passed away, Kanan gets up every day and continues on. He know's Aida wouldn't have wanted him to be like this, so he's gradually getting better. He sings again, and smiles sometimes. He bakes and listens and remembers ever fond memory of her. Some night's he clutches the small bell and ribbon she wore around her neck and remember her smile and the day she was born. Kanan often chuckles to himself, remembering when he was angry when finding out he was going to be a big brother. How wrong he had been. He misses the way she weaved between his legs when she learned to walk, or how she could never pronounce her R's. He misses Aida. But he hears her in the morning song of the birds, and the soothing hum of rain against the window, and is thankful for the tiny stream next to his house that can no longer hurt him or anyone he loves. At times he lays in bed, running his paw over the faded scar of Aida's bite marks on his tail and speaks blindly into the room, as if Aida's spirit could hear him. Of course she could hear him. She was Aida, and she could do anything. And he would end their conversation with a a tender smile and a heart felt I love you to put his mind at ease.
